Even here in tiny South Portland, Maine, police were at the door of Walmart last night
before midnight as the turkey-stuffed crowds pushed and shoved in what had once been
a line of first-comers. The pepperspray came out, the shoving got worse.....and for
what? Another electronic gadget to add to our throwaway world? Cheap clothing
that wears out in 3 months instead of 5 years?
Having watched Occupy Wall Street for several months, isn't it be now common
knowledge that Walmart alone has driven more local stores out of business in
America than any other single company?
American holidays have become nightmares on the highways, airports, stores in the
supposed imitation of the 1950 to 1960 version of an extended family, living nearby,
watching their grandparents serve turkey to a horde of restless cousins. Was it General Dwight
Eisenhower who stated that "the military-industrial complex" that emerged from World War 2
would destroy and commercialize American values?
A collection of facts and information supporting my opinion that grassroots power is the only way to deconstruct the stranglehold of big money, media, and Congress that is ruining our country's basic values.
