The Supreme Court’s ruling in the disastrous Citizens United case opened the flooded gates for corporations to spend vast sums of money in support of candidates who stand with them and against the public interest. Big Oil companies like ExxonMobil are now free to tap their vast corporate profits to back global warming deniers and other anti-environment candidates.
Fortunately, a group of environmental champions in the Senate, including Senators Dick Durbin, Chuck Schumer, Jeff Merkley, Tom Udall and Sheldon Whitehouse, are leading an effort to reclaim our democracy from corporate special interests. They’re pushing a constitutional amendment that reverses Citizens United – giving Congress and states the authority to limit corporate money in our elections.
From the Koch brothers to Karl Rove, corporate-backed interests are planning to spend hundreds of millions to influence our elections – potentially drowning out the voices of the majority of Americans who support reducing harmful global warming pollution and protecting vital environmental safeguards.
With the Supreme Court fundamentally changing the nature of our political system in favor of big corporations, it is more important than ever that we make our voices heard. Click here to support a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United.
Thank you for taking action.
Sincerely,
